Prompt: What do people thank you for?

This one took me some time. I had to sit with it for a while before I even decided I would come to the computer to write about it. It came at a bit of a strange time. Ends of relationships always tend to put little doubts in my head. That tiny voice says “it was all your fault” and “you are a horrible person.” It is a pretty crappy voice but luckily I know well enough that, while I do hold some of the cards, it is (usually) a two person game. Thankfully, I have a solid network of close friends and some stellar acquaintances that remind me that I am a worthwhile person, everyone makes mistakes, and hopefully both parties can learn and grow. Still, it is not always the easiest for me to acknowledge my positive traits and qualities. So, I will start small.

Most often, people in my life thank me for being their friend. For listening to them, for making space for their emotions and thoughts, and for encouraging them in the areas they want and need support in. Of course this isn’t everyone’s perception of me (I am not perfect) but it is the thing my friends most often tell me.

I would love to hear what people in your life thank you for! Leave a comment below telling me what you are good at.  Also, if you know me, am I leaving something out that you think is important?

D, you’re doing fine. <3

It's usually little things, social niceties. For being a friend? Honestly, I don't know I've done much to be thanked for. I don't think I've really felt…important to anyone. *shrug*

Brian, you are so present each time I see you. It is one of the greatest gifts you can offer to those around you. I appreciate it beyond words. You are incredibly important. Your words, your attitude, your perspective, your life are all important. <3
